Some might have thought that Group C would be a walk in the park for England, but it turned out to be a far cry from reality. Although leading with 4 points total, Gareth Southgate and his team are not yet qualified for the knockout stage and in the final group matchday will have the seemingly easy task of going past Slovenia. But looks can be deceiving.
England Team News
England has been anything but convincing ever since the tournament started. Although without a loss, this could be attributed more to luck than anything else. It will not be a lie to say that The Three Lions have had arguably 20 good minutes in the Euro up until this point. In the second half against Serbia they were outplayed and against Denmark England just switched off after taking the lead. Now, Gareth Southgate and his men will be under pressure to perform as criticism of the disjointed English attack has been piling up on the team. And while The Three Lions need to just avoid defeat here to progress I highly doubt that they will settle for just that.
Slovenia Team News
Slovenia was the definite underdog of the group, but their performances have surprised quite a few. Although with just 2 points total and with 2 less than England, the spirit in their camp is much higher. The reason is simple – they are defying the odds and have a very real chance of progressing to the knockout stage. Last time out they were denied a victory against Serbia deep in stoppage time which left a sour taste, but now against England the team will dream of handing another surprise. And while a win against tournament favourites England might be a tall order on paper, looking at the tame attacking performance of The Three Lions gives Slovenia a very real chance of at least a draw.
Head-to-Head-Games
It has been a while since England and Slovenia played each other. The last time this happened was in 2017 during the qualification for the 2018 World Cup. The game ended in a slim 1-0 win for England. But before that, we can see that Slovenia managed to hold England to a 0-0 draw during the very same qualifications.
England – Slovenia Betting Prediction
Еngland have been underwhelming in attack and Slovenia has been a pleasant surprise. Given that this game carries with itself the stake of progressing through to the next round I do not expect to see many goals. Thus, my pick here is for under 2.5 goals and a continuation of the goal-shy games these two teams have had in their most recent direct games.
