BetUS is an online gambling site we have talked about somewhat on GOSUBETTING. It is one of the Web’s initial gambling platforms and one of only a handful that launched in the 1990s and has remained active till today. Founded in 1994, at the dawn of the online gambling sphere, this brand’s motto is – Where the Game Begins. It has ranked among the top most established and used offshore US-centric gaming and betting hubs since its inception, with platforms like BetOnline, MyBookie, and Everygame joining it in this fold.
Little is known about the corporate structure of the company behind BetUS; we can only tell you that its main offices are in Costa Rica, where most of the brand’s staff resides. At the time of writing, LinkedIn had almost one hundred and fifty individuals who listed themselves in a professional working relationship with BetUS, with over a hundred and ten of these living in Costa Rica and the rest in the US, Brazil, Panama, and Canada. Someone named Jason Berg has listed himself as the owner of BetUS, but we are unsure if that person is, in fact, the head honcho or is just messing about.
BetUS used to advertise itself as America’s Favorite Sportsbook and to cozy up to US gamblers; it has long implemented a strategy of hiring former athletes who have been retired for a while to act as the site’s ambassadors and participate in its media outlets. This tactic aims to lend credibility to BetUS, as it now must compete with US-licensed apps, such as DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, and so on. Thus, it needs more brand recognition than ever, and due to its offshore nature, it needs to appear as trustworthy as possible to North American gamblers. Plus, many of the athletes BetUS has signed have not had loads of public spotlight in the past few years, so they do not break the bank but are famous enough that most visitors would instantly recognize them. Below, we run down a few of these names, the top ones in our opinion.
Warren Sapp
Nicknamed QBK, Warren Sapp is an ex-NFL defensive tackle who many believe revolutionized the position. He has the second-most sacks in the league and the third-most in a single season. Spending thirteen years in the NFL, Sapp was part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2003 championship team. He spent eight years in Tamp, playing for the Buccaneers from 1995 to 2003. In 2004, he moved to the Oakland Raiders, where he closed off his career, which was checkered by various controversies due to his volatile nature, verbal outbursts, money troubles, legal issues, and hard-hitting on-field style. Sapp retired in 2007 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame six years later.
In October 2020, he signed up to host a weekly podcast named Unfiltered for BetUS, where he shared the spotlight with Brian Jones, with whom, he interviewed various celebrities, but their guest pool primarily consisted of ex-NFL players.
Brian Jones
Sapp’s co-host, Brian Jones, is another name that most hard-core NFL fans will probably know, as he spent six seasons in the NFL in the 1998s, splitting his time in the league between the Raiders, Colts, Dolphins, and Saints. He was a linebacker, but most football lovers will likely know him best as a media personality, for his time as a talk show radio host, and reporter for Fox Sports and CBS Sports.
He joined Sapp for the BetUS Unfiltered podcast when it began, but only lasted a few months, and split ways with the gambling website fairly quickly after this online program debuted.
Gary Payton
The person who came in to fill Jones’ shoes on Unfiltered was NBA Hall of Famer Gary Payton. Most consider the Glove one of the best point guards in basketball history, especially on the defensive end. He made the most profound mark in the NBA via his thirteen-year tenure in Seattle and helped lead the SuperSonics along with Shawn Kemp to an NBA Final, which they lost to Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls in 1996. Payton got his NBA ring a decade later while playing with the Miami Heat, backing up Shaquille O’Neal and Dwayne Wade in their championship run. Seven years later, he got in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Payton signed with BetUS shortly after Sapp, and he joined him on the second season of the Unfiltered podcast in March 2021, covering much of the basketball talk until mid-summer of that year, as the NBA play-off drew to a close, and the show winded down.
Michael Vick
Michael Dwayne Vick is an ex-NFL quarterback who captured the US news media landscape in 2007 on account of his involvement in running a dog fighting ring, something for which he got sentenced to twenty-one months of federal prison time. His case garnered massive media coverage, and after serving his time, he made a comeback to the league, signing with the Philadelphia Eagles after previously spending seven years with the Falcons. In his second season back, he posted super impressive stats and earned the 2010 NFL Comeback Player of the Year honor. Vick appeared in four Pro Bowls and was the National Football League’s initial quarterback to rush one thousand yards in a season. He spent a total of thirteen seasons in the NFL, from 2001 to 2015, retiring in 2017 after failing to get signed for 2016, which he spent as a free agent.
In June 2024, BetUS announced Vick’s involvement in the platform, on the marketing side of things, proclaiming him the new face of BetUS. Vick also works with FOX Sport, but he now acts as BetUS’s leading and only official spokesperson. In truth, this gambling site chiefly uses his photos of Vick and plasters them over various promotion offers, paring them with nifty copy, such as – You Do Not Have to Get Drafted to Get a Signing Bonus. Clever. Michael has also appeared on various BetUS programs, meaning online shows, and he gets used in BetUS social media ads.
