EURO 2024: Who Will Be European Champions in 2024?

Twenty-four teams will take part in EURO 2024. Of course, there can only be one winner. What Stadium will the EURO 2024 be held at? While the odds will shorten on favorites as we get nearer to the final, we can already make some reasonable assumptions about who may be coming home with the gold.

The Hosts

Germany has had quite a barren spell over the last few years. Since winning the World Cup in 2014 and finishing as runners-up in 2016, Die Mannschaft has only made the Round of 16 at any competitive tournament once, in 2020. They’ve been dumped out of both the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup events in the Group Stage. Having not had to qualify for their home tournament, there is every reason to believe that Germany could be set for more disappointment. In front of their home fans and with a new manager in tow, this young German side could be about to end the rot, and they’ll naturally be favorites when the proceedings kick off in June.

Euro 2024 Bets – The Usual Suspects

2022 World Cup runners-up France seems well-placed to take the title home. They finished second best in 2016, but this striking squad is brimming over with talent, and many will expect them to go one further this time around.

England still hasn’t won a major trophy since their only World Cup success in 1966. However, they’ve come close on numerous occasions. Notably, the Three Lions finished as runners-up in 2020, and their impressive qualifying record suggests they could go all the way in Germany in 2024 – if it doesn’t go to penalties.

Italy may be a dead donkey in the World Cup (they haven’t qualified since 2014 and haven’t made it out of the group stage since they won in 2006), but they tend to come alive in the Euros. The defending champions aren’t guaranteed a spot at the tournament, and they are yet to qualify. However, they are assured of at least a play-off spot, and if they make it, we wouldn’t bet against them.

The Dark Horses

Belgium’s golden era is well and truly over, so they aren’t expected to compete in Germany next summer. However, it’s worth keeping an eye out for Portugal. They last won in 2016 but have ensured a perfect record in qualifying and are surely among the favorites for the trophy. Spain has had a near flawless qualifying campaign, too, while the Netherlands have also looked impressive.

The Underdogs

There are a few underdogs which have got us excited. Scotland has a record that matches Spain in qualifying, and they can cause upsets. Watch out for Greece, too. Although they aren’t yet qualified, they look the part. Could another famous upset bet on the cards for the Greeks? Lastly, we’d highlight Austria. They are already qualified, and their qualifying record showcases this side to arguably be one of their best in decades.

How does EURO 2024 Work?

EURO 2024 is UEFA’s showpiece event, and it sees the best national teams in Europe come together once every four years for a summer tournament. The competition is often incredibly hotly contested and has been known to provide a few shocks over the years, including Denmark winning in 1992 (having only entered due to Yugoslavia being disqualified) and Greece’s memorable 2004 triumph.

Euro 2024 is set to continue with the same setup as the previous tournament and will run from 14 June until 14 July. Here’s everything you need to know:

The Hosts

Germany won the bidding process to host the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament, defeating Turkey 12 votes to 4, with one abstention. The ten stadia selected to host games include the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Allianz Arena in Munich, Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park, and Stuttgart’s MHPArena. Gelsenkirchen’s Veltins-Arena, Frankfurt’s Waldstadion and the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf have also been chosen. Games will also be played at Leipzig’s Red Bull Arena, the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, and Cologne’s RheinEnergie Stadion. Germany will open the event at FC Bayern München’s Allianz Arena, with Hertha BSC’s Olympiastadion playing host to the final in the capital.

Qualified Teams

Qualifying began on 23 March 2023 and concludes on 26 March 2024, a few months before the start of the competition. Russia was disqualified before qualifying began following the invasion of Ukraine. The remaining 53 teams (Germany qualified automatically as hosts) were seeded into pots and drawn into ten groups of five or six teams.

Germany has already qualified as the hosts, while France, Portugal, England, Belgium, Spain, Scotland, Turkey, and Austria have qualified from the groups. There are still 15 spots left open in the tournament, and these will be filled over the coming months by the first and second-placed teams in each group.

Some teams have already been eliminated from the competition. Nations that can no longer make it to EURO 2024 (by any means) include Cyprus, Gibraltar, North Macedonia, Malta, Latvia, Lithuania, Northern Ireland, Belarus, Andorra, San Marino, and surprisingly, Sweden.

The Playoffs

Some teams finishing third in the qualifying round may still book their ticket to the main event. They will have to go through a series of play-offs, though. Other nations who have failed to make it may also qualify for the playoffs by performing in the UEFA Nations League. So far, teams who have at least made the playoffs (they may still qualify outright) include the Netherlands, Greece, Italy, Croatia, Serbia, Denmark, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Finland.

Of course, this isn’t set yet, and there are automatic qualification routes available for some of these teams and play-off routes open for others not listed here.

Group Stage

A total of twenty-four nations will battle it out in EURO 2024. Germany is the only team that has so far been allocated a spot – in Group A as hosts. The remaining five groups (B-F) will be seeded closer to the event. Each group consists of four teams. The top two teams in each group advance to the Round of 16, while the best four third-placed teams will also make the cut. Their status is determined by their performance (ranking) in the Group Stage.

Knock-Out Rounds

The first knock-out matches begin on 30 June in Cologne. These eight games are played over a single leg, with extra time (two 15-minute halves) and penalties used to determine a winner in the event of a tie. Those winners meet in the Quarterfinals on the 5 and 6 of July. The winners of the Quarterfinals meet in the Semi-Finals on the 9 and 10 of July. All knock-out rounds are played over a single match with the same criteria used to dictate winners if the match is tied after added time.

The EURO 2024 Final

The winners of both semi-finals come together in the final on 14 July, at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Unlike the World Cup, there is no third-place play-off in the European Championship. In the event of a tie, the same format of extra-time followed by penalties will be used to determine the winner.

Your Guide to Euro 2024 Bets

In all, there are fifty-one matches taking place over four weeks. Like any major football competition, the European Championships result in a flurry of wild betting over a month. Expect to see punters having a flutter on underdogs and favorites being heavily backed. If you’re a keen football fan, you’ll already know exactly what options are in front of you. However, if you’re new to betting on major football tournaments, we’ve got a handy guide that will explain all you need to know about betting on EURO 2024.

Taking a Premature Punt on Qualifying

As qualifying is not yet complete, you can still wager on the teams to sink or swim on the road to EURO 2024. Now is the ideal time to gain a bit of insight into the teams vying for the main event, and there are still upsets and shocks to be had. Qualifying is the ideal time for underdogs to nab surprise wins. Opt for match winners if you’re going down this route, and the qualifying stage has been underway for a while, so betting on teams to qualify won’t see you offered top odds at this moment in time.

EURO 2024 Bets – Group Stage Betting

One of the perks of betting on the Group Stage is that your team has multiple chances to get you out of a hole. A Group Stage bet is essentially a wager that Team X or Y will make it out of the Group Stage and qualify for the knock-out rounds. Each team plays three matches, and you generally need around five or six points to ensure qualification for the next phase. Two wins, or a win and two draws, ought to be enough for you to win your bet.

Outright Tournament Bets

Outright EURO 2024 bets on tournaments tend to offer the juiciest odds. These essentially see you placing future bets on a team to win the tournament. Of course, the greatest odds on favorites tend to be available before the tournament begins. Once it is underway, the odds shorten as a team’s form plays a big role. By contrast, there are still reasonably long odds to be had on underdogs right before the tournament begins or even as it gets underway.

Single Match Winners

The most common type of bet on football, especially the European Championship, is on single-match winners. This merely involves predicting whether you think a match will end with a win for Team A or Team B. However, you will also see that a draw is offered as an option. This is a valid result to bet on during the Group Stage. However, in the knock-out round, draw bets are only taken on the score at 90 minutes (plus added time). You need to check the rules of each sportsbook to see whether a match-winner bet includes extra time and penalties or is solely based on the result during regulation time.

Top Scorer Bets

This fun little bet could see you pocket decent winnings. You’re looking to bet on which player will score the most goals, either in a match or, ideally, over the tournament. It may go by the name of “Golden Boot”. This is sometimes easier than predicting the overall tournament winner, especially as you can still get decent odds quite late in the tournament with top-scorer bets.

Other EURO 2024 Bets

Several other bets are regularly offered by top bookmakers. You can choose to predict the score on EURO 2024 games. While the odds of you correctly predicting the score will be notably long, the rewards for successfully doing so are rich. You can also bet on the first player to score, half-time scores, the number of corners or yellow cards, and more. Our advice would be to browse around, as each bookmaker may have its own special selection of bets, to boot.

Bagging EURO 2024 Bonuses and Promotions

Our top and trusted Bitcoin bookmakers are always home to an array of tournaments and bonuses. However, as the main event draws near, expect some specialized EURO 2024 bets bonuses to be supported at these sites. We’ll briefly touch on the types of promos you should expect to see right here. They include:

Welcome Bonuses

Join one of our trusted Bitcoin bookmakers and crypto-friendly sportsbooks to get yourself a welcome bonus when you sign up. This may be a cash match on your first deposit, or it could involve a free bet (money back if you lose) on certain selections and odds.

Special Offers

EURO 2024 is a major sporting event, and bookmakers love to have one-off, bespoke bonuses, and deals for special events. These special offers may include money-back deals in the event of a draw (during the Group Stage), underdog specials, pool-based bets, slashed odds, and more. Keep an eye out for Early Cashout options at bookmakers, too, as these tend to spring up during main events like EURO 2024.

Live Betting, Streaming, and Early Cash Out on EURO 2024 Matches

Nothing beats catching the action live, except for maybe wagering on a game in real-time. Many of our reputable sportsbooks support live betting. With live betting, you can watch a match pan out on television and adjust your bets accordingly based on what’s happening in real-time on the pitch. In some cases, you may even be able to live-stream the action on your chosen sportsbook, and as mentioned above, some crypto bookmakers even allow you to cash out early.

Last-minute goals can send you into a frenzy, and nowhere is this truer than during the knock-out stages of a major competition such as EURO 2024. Early cashout options are hugely favorable. With these perks, you can cash out your bet ahead of time (albeit at a reduced win rate). This can be beneficial if it looks as though your time is about to concede, has lost control of the match, and is under constant bombardment from the opposition. Again, not all sportsbooks provide this service, but we’ll highlight those that do.

Top Tips for Betting on EURO 2024

If you’re a seasoned football betting veteran, you’ll likely already have a host of ideas and strategies lined up for EURO 2024. If you’re new to sports betting, you may need a little nudge in the right direction. That’s where we come in. We’re here to hold your hand throughout the early stages of betting on EURO 2024 with our top tips. They include:

Do your Homework

Doing your due diligence when betting on football is vitally important. Many Bitcoin bookmakers offer stats centres, and there are all sorts of resources you can find online that detail past results, form, and statistics. Tipsters offer predictions and returns calculators can be used to gauge the smartest way to bet on any match at EURO 2024.

Watch the Games

What’s the point of betting on games that you have no vested interest in? One of the best ways to enjoy gambling on EURO 2024 is to actively watch the matches. During the Group Stage, there are often two matches per day, sometimes more every day. We strongly recommend watching as many games as you can to familiarise yourself with each team and how they play. We’d even recommend doing that ahead of time, starting now with the qualifiers, play-offs, and pre-tournament friendlies.

Pay Attention to Injuries, Form, Bookings

When the tournament is in full swing, it is worth exploring the finer details of the competition, not just the performances. Keep an eye out for injuries that could drastically alter a team line-up and check for a side’s form. You’ll also want to look out for bookings. Too many yellow cards can result in a ban for the following game. Also, be mindful of teams that have already qualified, as they may field weakened sides to save their players for the knock-out round. A qualified team may be easily beaten by an already eliminated team that wishes to leave the tournament on a high, for instance. This is when underdog bets could prove adventurous.

Stick to Small Stakes on Underdogs

Everybody loves having a punt on an underdog. It is rare for the underdog to triumph, though. Greece shocked the world in 2004. At one point, they had odds of 500/1. They would go on to win the tournament, proving that it can be done. You don’t need to go all in, though. Don’t wager large sums on underdogs, as the probability of them triumphing isn’t high. Moreover, just slapping down $1 on a 250/1 or 500/1 bet will pay dividends. You don’t have to splash the cash to benefit from a surprise underdog victory, especially with outright bets.

Making Use of Accumulators

Many top sportsbooks and crypto gambling sites support accumulator bets. These are wagers where you effectively select several matches and slap them all on one ticket. To win, you’ll need to get most (if not all) of your predictions correct. However, the winnings from one bet form the stake for the next, and so on. Because of this, you can multiply your winnings compared to what you’d land if you wagered on each match individually. If you wish to make use of an accumulator, we’d recommend sticking to dead certs, as they mean less risk.

Browse for the Best Odds

Don’t be afraid to browse for the best bookmakers. In fact, you can even open accounts at several. Each sportsbook will have its own odds for matches, so it may be worth browsing several before you decide to back a bet. This way, you can ensure that you get the most competitive odds each time.
