One of the semi-finals of Copa America will be a repeat of the tournament’s opening game. Argentina and Canada know each other well but we will see if the lessons from the previous game will be remembered and another similar game is on the horizon. Or we might be treated to an entirely different show.
Argentina Team News
Given the rather easy draw and the opponents Argentina has faced and will now face, anything less than a win will be considered a massive surprise. Lionel Scaloni and his team have the fortune of avoiding all of the other favourites for the tournament on their road to the final. Argentina’s form has been spectacular as they have won all of their Copa America fixtures thus far. An even more impressive feat is that the only conceded goal by the team came against Ecuador in the quarter-finals. But that goal was costly as it came in the dying minutes of the second half, and it took penalties for Argentina to be here today. A scenario such as the one against Ecuador is something Argentina will look to avoid.
Canada Team News
Canada has gone the extra mile and is now in the semi-finals of Copa America. Few predicted Jesse Marsch’s team to get something out of their group, let alone be one step from the final. The Canucks have displayed some gritty and practical performances thus far and will now face the only team that has managed to beat them in the tournament – Argentina. Many hope that lessons have been learned from this game and Jesse Marsch will be able to counteract their opponents. While this might look like a tall order at first glance, Canada has managed to achieve everything in this tournament from the position of an outsider.
Head-to-Head-Games
If we discount the one game from 2010 between these two teams, the most recent fixture between Argentina and Canada was played several weeks ago and was the opener of Copa America. It was a close game that presented chances for both Canada and Argentina, but ultimately it was the latter that won 2-0.
Argentina – Canada Betting Prediction
These two teams know each other well, as they have already seen what kind of football they play first-hand. While Argentina is the clear favourite, Canada has reached this stage of the tournament by embracing their outsider status and surprising many in the process. In this game I don’t expect many goals – Argentina hasn’t been on fire, but has rather approached games with practicality. Canada is unlikely to go guns blazing and I expect them to sit back and wait their chances. All of this leads me to believe that we won’t be seeing much scoring here.
