This year we have a German presence in both semi-finals of the Champions League. The last time this happened was back in the 2012/2013 season when Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich contested the final coincidentally in Wembley. Will we see a repeat of history this season and will PSG prove too much for Dortmund? We will find out soon enough.
Borussia Dortmund Team News
Borussia Dortmund’s path to the semi-final stage of the Champions League has seen them eliminate Atletico Madrid and PSV in the knockout stage. But in the group stage, the team managed to top the so-called ”group of death”, which featured PSG. Edin Terzic’s team continues their stellar home performances and is unbeaten at home in the tournament. Moreover, the only time Dortmund did not score a goal as hosts in this year’s Champions League was during the 0-0 draw with AC Milan in the group stage. But preparations for this important fixture could have been better as Borussia suffered a heave 4-1 defeat at the hands of Leipzig this Saturday.
PSG Team News
PSG will again meet Dortmund, this time not in the group stage, but painstakingly close to the final. The Parisians can claim that they have not suffered a defeat at the hands of Borussia and could find inspiration from this fact. But much like their opposition, PSG also made a wrong step in their preparations for this game with a 3-3 draw with Le Have, saving themselves only due to a goal deep in stoppage time. In the Champions League barely made it out of the group stage and had a favourable draw for the Round of 16 with Real Sociedad. In the quarter-finals, the team eliminated Barcelona after a 2-3 home defeat and a 1-4 away win, but it should be noted that Barcelona played with a man down since the 29th minute of the second leg, something which heavily tipped the scales in The Parisians’ favour.
Head-to-Head-Games
Dortmund and PSG met each other in the group stage of the tournament. PSG won the first game in Paris and reached a draw in Germany. Before that, the two teams met again in the knockout stages of the tournament, but in 2020 and at the Round of 16. Then, Borussia managed to clinch a 2-1 victory at home, but PSG won 2-0 in the second leg and ultimately went on to lose that year’s final against Bayern Munich.
Borussia Dortmund – PSG Betting Prediction
There is always a period of getting to know the opponent in such late stages, but Dortmund and PSG have already played against one another in the group stage and know each other rather well. At home, Borussia tends to play their best football and often scores a good number of goals, albeit also conceding frequently. PSG can be deadly on the counter and have punished more than a team with such an approach. What I expect from the first leg of the game is a match, where Dortmund will be looking to secure a comfortable lead before the second leg in Paris. However, their defensive mishaps often lead to them conceding goals and working harder to make up for that. Hence why, I expect the team to score over 1.5 goals here. At the very least, even if they play a perfect game in defence, Dortmund would probably still want to ensure at least a 2 goal lead before the rematch.
