This is certainly the marquee fixture of Wednesday night’s Champions League matches. In a re-run of 2023’s final, Manchester City will take on Inter Milan at the very start of their continental campaign. Both sides will enter this game as unbeaten since the start of their respective domestic seasons and will look for a strong start to their European endeavours as well.
Manchester City Team News
Four wins in their opening four Premier League fixtures have put City in a strong position ahead of their game with Inter. This is boosted by their stellar continental record as well – unbeaten in 23 consecutive Champions League matches. Moreover, Pep Guardiola’s win percentage is the best out of any manager with over 50 games in the competition – 64%. All of these statistics point to a well-oiled machine that is raring for another chance at the trophy. Last year, City did not manage to win and have only their 2023 trophy to show for in the Champions League, but have turned themselves into the prime suspect to win it in all recent editions.
Inter Milan Team News
Inter will also travel to the Etihad Stadium undefeated but unlike their English adversaries, results for Simone Inzaghi have been mixed. While losses have been avoided, The Nerazzurri will enter their battle with City on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw away to Monza. This draw was the second one since the start of the domestic campaign for Inter, as Simone Inzaghi’s men failed to win away to Genoa on their opening day as well, by suffering an equalizer deep in stoppage time. But the team’s Champions League record is more than good – just 3 losses in their last 20 encounters and it will certainly be something that Inter will want to build on.
Head-to-Head-Games
Despite being among the top clubs in both England and Italy, Manchester City and Inter have met one another in a competitive game just once – during the 2023 Champions League final. City won that bout with a slender 1-0 and finally got hold of their first trophy from the tournament.
Manchester City – Inter Milan Betting Prediction
City has been solid since the start of the season and in the Champions League in general. Although their tournament record against Serie A teams is not that good, with 5 wins from 13 games against such opposition, 4 of these victories came from their last 5 such games. Inter is also solid in the Champions League, even if recent performances have been mixed. What could be pointed out as a similarity between City and Inter’s last several games are the goals scored – both teams have managed to score in all of their 4 league fixtures thus far, with City keeping 1 clean sheet, while Inter has 2. The Nerazzurri, however, have not found success on their travels yet, as all of their victories have come at home. With all of that being said, my pick here is for City to win and the game to feature over 1.5 goals. Given recent matches and the form of both this seems like a logical choice.
