Time again for Der Klassiker, Germany’s most anticipated football rivalry. The game is sandwiched between the UCL quarter-finals, in which both Bayern and Dortmund lost their respective first legs. But for Vincent Kompany’s team, there is much more to look forward to, as they sit at the top of the Bundesliga table, while Borussia is struggling to even get into the league’s top 6.
Bayern Munich Team News
With the first leg against Inter being lost in the dying minutes of the game, Bayern’s task in the UCL became even more difficult. The team certainly wasn’t helped by the number of injured and missing key players, such as Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala, and Dayot Upamecano, among others. But a win here against their Dortmund rivals might just give them the confidence boost they would need before their trip to Italy. And a win here is certainly what Bayern will be going after. With a six-point advantage over Leverkusen, Kompany’s men could bring the Meisterschale one step closer by winning here. Their case will also be strengthened by the fact that the Bavarians have lost just 1 of their 14 home Bundesliga games this season, winning 12 in the process.
Borussia Dortmund Team News
Dortmund were utterly dismantled by Barcelona during the midweek and have a very tough schedule to look forward to. Before the UCL quarter-final second leg, they must travel to Munich to face their arch-nemesis. Borussia’s fortunes haven’t been good this season, especially on the road, as the team has lost 8 of its 14 away fixtures in the Bundesliga. At the very least, Kovac’s team did secure back-to-back league wins against key competitors for the European spots before the Barcelona debacle and seeing as how Borussia will have to secure European exposure next season through the league, points against Bayern become mandatory. Another strong aspect for Borussia seems to be the fact that, since Niko Kovač took over, they are the team with the highest xG figure and most shots taken.
Head-to-Head-Games
In recent years, Bayern have performed strongly in Der Klassiker by securing 7 wins across the last 10 H2H encounters with Borussia. The fact of the matter is that in the 2 most recent editions of the Derby, Bayern have failed to win and have even suffered a defeat in the same fixture last season. Overall, however, what we can expect is goals, as 8 of the aforementioned 10 most recent derbies produced at least 3 goals.

Bayern Munich – Borussia Dortmund Betting Prediction
Given the timing of this game and the positions both sides find themselves in pre-game, my pick here is for a Bayern Munich win in a game featuring over 2.5 goals. The Bavarians are very strong when it comes to Bundesliga home fixtures, and the added incentive of getting one step closer to the title will surely seem alluring. Moreover, a win here will do wonders for their morale before the second leg battle with Inter.
Borussia, on the other hand, seem capable of a late push for the European spots as evidenced by their 2 back-to-back wins against key competitors for the very same spots. The team is producing enough chances, finding ways to score goals, but it is the defensive aspect that needs much more work to be done. And while Dortmund have put up a fight in Der Klassiker in the last 2 editions, avoiding defeats in both cases, I just cannot see them taking anything from Bayern now.
