If one were to look at the Bundesliga table there could be genuine bewilderment about the positions Dortmund and Stuttgart occupy. Borussia are lingering in the bottom half of the table, whereas The Swabians are 5th, barely clinging to the European spots. Both represented Germany in this year’s Champions League, but are faced with the possibility of altogether dropping out of Europe next season.
Borussia Dortmund Team News
Niko Kovac will make his coaching debut at Dortmund against an opponent aiming for the top 4 spots. His appointment was met with some doubt and criticism, mainly due to his previous track record and often losing the support of the dressing room. However, what he can bring to Dortmund is stability in the interim, as this is what Borussia is sorely lacking at this point. The possibility of being left outside of the Champions League spots is all too real for the team, even if the gap between them and 4th-placed RB Leipzig is just 4 points. As hosts, Borussia is generally performing well, even if their most recent win at home ended a 5 game-winless streak as hosts. What the team must do, however, is vastly improve their defence, as Dortmund are without a clean sheet in 12 consecutive games.
VfB Stuttgart Team News
Stuttgart’s disappointing few weeks have seen them crash out of the Champions League and drop out of the Bundesliga’s top 4. Back-to-back league defeats and a 1-4 thrashing by the hands of PSG sandwiched between them saw to it that this happened. On the brighter side, The Swabians did manage to win their DFB Pokal game with Augsburg during the midweek and booked their ticket for the competition’s semi-finals. What could be genuinely worrying for Stuttgart is the fact that if their Bundesliga form continues to plunder, the team could find itself outside of the European spots and the top half altogether as the difference between them and Dortmund is just 3 points.
Head-to-Head-Games
Recent H2H has been dominated by Stuttgart, who have managed to win the most recent 4 meetings with Borussia Dortmund. The latter’s last win over Stuttgart came in 2022 at home, but since then The Black and Yellows have failed to achieve anything noteworthy in the following 5 H2H games.

Borussia Dortmund – VfB Stuttgart Betting Prediction
This will be a close game in my opinion, but I am going with a win for Borussia Dortmund here. I believe that the ”new manager effect” will play a big part here as this will be Kovac’s debut. Despite being overall inconsistent throughout the season, Dortmund has won the vast majority of their home matches. On the other hand, Stuttgart will visit the Signal Iduna Park at a rather bleak time for them, as they have dropped out of the Champions League and have back-to-back losses in the Bundesliga. With the points gap between these teams being minimal, I expect this to be a great game with Dortmund capitalizing on their home advantage and new manager to win it.
