Another interesting clash in the promotion/relegation battles is the contest between Austria and Serbia, both of whom are vying for a place in League A of the UNL. For the Austrians, this could potentially be their second entry into League A of the tournament, while Serbia will try everything to wash away the memories of a poor UNL campaign.
Austria Team News
The reason why Ralf Rangnick’s squad is in this playoff, to begin with, is because of a disappointing 1-1 home draw against Slovenia on the last matchday of group B3. A win would have meant that they would be automatically promoted to League A, but ultimately they felt a bit short. The draw against Slovenia also halted a good momentum that the Austrian side had picked up with 3 consecutive victories, two of which game at home. Overall, whenever Austria plays it is a good idea to assume that there would be goals as 6 of their last 10 competitive fixtures produced at least 3 goals with 9 in this period also producing at least 2. All of the team’s home matches in this edition of the UNL saw at least 2 goals scored as well.
Serbia Team News
Serbia’s UNL campaign was one to forget as they managed to pick up just 1 win in their League A group. Granted, their opponents were Spain, Switzerland and Denmark, but except for the first, the other two are outfits that are on arguably the same level. Serbia picked up the vast majority of its points from home matches, where the team was undefeated. But when we look at their away games we can see 2 defeats, 1 draw and just 1 goal scored from the team during their UNL group stage away fixtures. The last away victory for Serbia came in 2024 during a friendly game against Sweden which ended 0-3. Dragan Stojković will also have to find a way to remedy his team’s woes in front of goal, as Serbia has failed to score in 5 of its last 7 matches.
Head-to-Head-Games
In the 5 games played between these two nations, Serbia has a slight advantage with 3 victories as opposed to Austria’s 2. However, it should be noted that Austria has won the 2 most recent games with Serbia, which were both home matches for them. The most recent of these 2 wins was in 2024 during a friendly game.
Austria – Serbia Betting Prediction
While I expect this to be a hard-fought battle for both sides, I will pick a win for Austria here and over 1.5 goals scored. Ralf Rangnick’s men are generally at their best during home matches and Austria is a team, whose games usually produce a high amount of goals. Despite their most recent 1-1 home draw, I still think that they have momentum on their side, at least for a win at home.
Serbia, on the other hand, showed that it struggles with away games as evidenced by its poor results in such games during the group stage of the UNL. Moreover, the team is finding it hard to score, which only adds an obstacle to their trip to Austria. Given these issues, and the fact that Dragan Stojković’s team already lost once here last year, I wouldn’t see it as too far-fetched if the 2024 game repeated itself.
