Peru and Chile find themselves in Group A of the Copa America sharing a group with heavyweight and favourite Argentina. With that being said it is obvious for both teams that there is little room for errors. Points will have to be won at every possible turn or the very least losses must be avoided against the other teams in the group.
Peru Team News
Peru will most likely enter the game with Chile with confidence as new manager Jorge Fossati has had an impressive stat at the helm of The Bicolour. In the four games he has been in charge of, his team has managed three wins and 1 draw. Something likely to further inspire the Peruvian outfit is the fact that they have made it out of the group stage in their last 10 participations in the Copa America. In their preparatory friendlies before the tournament, Bicolour squared off against El Salvador and Paraguay. Both fixtures were goal-shy as there was just 1 goal scored in both and it came from Peru.
Chile Team News
Chile can also be said to be under the ”new manager” syndrome as Ricardo Gareca took over in January. Since then he has led his team to two wins and a close loss to world #2 France. What is peculiar is that Chile has managed to score at least 2 goals per game ever since Gareca took over. Against Paraguay and Albania earlier this year, Chile even managed to score 3 goals. It is no surprise that Chile will be looking to reach the knockout phase, as they have done in previous editions or possibly replicate their 2016 campaign that saw them win against all odds.
Head-to-Head-Games
Looking at the head-to-head statistics between Peru and Chile we can make some observations. Firstly, games between these two don’t tend to feature lots of goals, as the last 3 meetings produced just 2. Draws are something uncommon as well, as all of the last 5 fixtures went one way – 3 wins for Peru and 2 for Chile. Moreover, all of the last 5 games featured goals by just one team.
Peru – Chile Betting Prediction
Since this is an opening game I expect Peru and Chile to be cautious. Nevertheless, given the fact that they share a group with Argentina, it is likely that both will look for the win. Previous head-to-head matches have shown that goals are not something to be expected between those two and neither are draw, nor goals from both sides. I expect this game to be a rather cautious one that will not feature lots of goals. I do not envision both teams scoring too, hence why my pick is for both teams to score: no.
