In the quarter-finals of Copa America, we have some fantastic games that can be considered classics. Then we have a somewhat surprising game that puts Venezuela against newcomers Canada. To be fair to both, they earned their place here with hard work, with Canada surprising lots of people.
Venezuela Team News
Venezuela managed to top their group with 3 straight wins and just one goal conceded. The teams that La Vinotinto was against are no slouches either. Mexico, despite their issues and inconsistency, is a team that can give anybody trouble on their day. Ecuador held Argentina to a draw in the first quarter-final and was only eliminated via penalties. This goes to show that Venezuela carved wins against teams that are not as weak as initially perceived and can definitely surprise anybody who underestimates them. Whether now they will fall to that same trap and underestimate their opponent remains to be seen.
Canada Team News
In their maiden Copa America, Canada has surprised quite a few people and managed to reach the knockout stage. This was done while sharing a group with Argentina, Peru and Chile. Canada has displayed gritty practicality and managed to grind out results when needed – winning against Peru, reaching a draw with Chile and losing with just 2-0 to Argentina. Jesse Marsch’s team also became the first Copa America debutant to reach the quarter-finals during their maiden participation.
Head-to-Head-Games
Two fixtures have been played between Venezuela and Canada and both ended in stalemates. Another similarity is that these two matches saw both teams scoring, as the results were 1-1 and 2-2. But this information should be taken with a grain of salt as the last game between these two was in 2010.
Venezuela – Canada Betting Prediction
While this fixture might now have the glamour of some of the other quarter-finals, both teams are probably sure to put on a good game. The odds seem even as do the strengths of both outfits. Neither has one over the other in previous games and this is a chance for that to change. Here, I would pick Venezuela to qualify, as I believe they are the better team and because they have shown more in attacking while also showing the same defensive stability as Canada.
