In the first game from the semi-finals in Indian Wells, we will see the last season champion – Carlos Alcaraz, defending his title against Jannik Sinner, the player who is still undefeated for 2024. The game is expected to be very interesting because, as I have written multiple times, these two players are the future of professional tennis.
Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz Preview
Jannik Sinner is simply amazing this year, and he has been undefeated for more than five months. The last time he lost a game was in the final of the ATP Finals in Italy, where he lost to Djokovic. Since then, he has been playing fantastic tennis, and no one can stop him. He is already a huge star all over the world thanks to his Grand Slam title in Australia. Since then, he won so many games that he is probably the favourite number one for winning at least one more big tournament. Last season, the Italian lost to Alcaraz in Indian Wells but then took revenge in Miami. He is solid, though I am not quite sure that he will be as motivated as Alcaraz, who needs to defend his 1000 points.
As already written above, Alcaraz will do the impossible to defend his points from the last season. Although he reached the semi-finals, he would lose a lot of points if he failed to qualify for the final. Currently, he has won 400 points, which means that he will lose 600, many points that will be deducted from his overall ranking, and he will not have the chance to fight with Djokovic, at least for the upcoming months (for the first spot in professional tennis). In the live rankings, if he loses from Sinner, he will be even passed by the Italian, who will be 100 points ahead and 1400 behind the Serbian. I think that the Spaniard is doing a great tournament, he is solid and we saw it the other night against Zverev. If there is enough motivation in his game, I doubt that Sinner will win easily.

Betting Tip – Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz
For my betting preview, I decided to go for the “surprise” and bet on Carlos Alcaraz to win the match. I doubt that Sinner will be as motivated as the Spanish player, and this will play a vital role during the match. Alcaraz is the defending champion, after all, and with one good win against Sinner, he will feel more comfortable defending his points from last season and staying in the battle for the first spot, which can be decided just a month later when the clay season starts.
